Are there any active volcanoes in Australia?
There are no active volcanoes in Australia.
Are there only 6 volcanoes in SW Victoria?
No. There are many other ancient volcanoes but the ones that have been discussed are those that have greatest significance.
Are there any volcanoes in other places in Victoria?
Yes, volcanoes are evident between NW Melbourne and across from Ballarat to Cape Bridgewater.
What is the youngest volcano in Australia?
Mount Schank (South of Mount Gambier) in South Australia is Australia's youngest volcano only 5,400 years old.

Most places are around 330km west of Melbourne.

The emergence of lava from a vent in the Earth's crust.
Hot Spot
Thinner area of the Earth's crust where the magma penetrates.
